国立ベルギーロイヤルフランダースバレエ団 プリンシパル Wim Vanlessen, Principal Dancer with Royal Ballet Flanders, was born in Belgium and trained at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp. At age 17, Vanlessen won the silver medal at the Concours International de Danse in Houlgate, and the 'Prix Professional' at the Prix De Lausanne. In 1994 he joined The Royal Ballet of Flanders, where he quickly proceeded to the rank of Principal Dancer. > > He received much media attention for his outstanding performances in Onegin, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Giselle, La Bayadère, Romeo and Juliet, Theme and Variations, Divertimento No.15, The four Temperaments, Apollo and Who Cares. > Wim has worked closely with world-renowned choreographers, developing and creating principal roles in many great ballets such as: In the Middle Somewhat Elevated, Herman Schmerman, Artifact, Impressing the Czar (Forsythe), Return To The Strange Land and Forgotten Land (Kylián), Sonate (Béjart), Lost By Last (Jorma Elo), 'The Chosen One' from Le Sacre du Printemps (Glen Tetley) and David Dawson's The Grey Area, The Sweet Spell Of Oblivian and The Third Light. > > Wim is frequently invited as a guest dancer for international gala performances, as a guest teacher including the Prix De Lausanne and ABT summer school and has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards. He performed at the Gala Des Étoiles in Paris, The Lincoln Center Festival in New York, The Olympic Games in Nagano, The Aoyama Ballet Festival of Tokyo, The Prague Ballet Gala, Dance Salad in Houston and The Gala of the Prix De Lausanne in Switzerland. He was also invited by Marcia Haydée to dance at the 50th anniversary of the Santiago Ballet in Chile. In 2014 he starred in the tittle role of 'Des Grieux' in Manon and Suite en Blanc as a guest principal artist with the Australian Ballet in Melbourne and at the famous Sydney Opera House. > > Wim was nominated as best dancer in 2003 at The Bolchoï Theater in Moscou during the Gala of the 'Benois de la Danse'. In 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 he was honoured with Dance Europe Magazine's 'Best Male Dancer of the year' , and for his 'Extraordinary Partnership' with Aki Saito in 2007 and 2009. In addition he won The Critics Award of 'Ballet 2000' magazine in Cannes. > > Recently he was chosen to dance the lead role in Béjart's masterpiece 'Bolero' and gave a stunning interpretation of the epic role of Spartacus by Grigorovich for which he earned Best Male Performance of the year by Dance Europe. In 2016 he got knighted to become Chevalier in the order of Leopold.
